St Columba's Primary School, Strabane

Welcome

St Columba’s PS is a Catholic school situated in the village of Clady and we have a lovely relationship with the parish and community groups in the area. We are so lucky to be surrounded by woodland and nature and this allows us to plan and prepare for lots of outdoor learning.

At St Columba’s we strive to develop our children to be spiritual, creative, resilient, curious and empathetic, to have strong relationships and positive attitudes to all aspects of their learning. Positive mental health and well-being is an area that we see as very important in our school community and that is why we provide specialised programmes such as ‘Relax Kids’ and Counselling services for those who need more one to one support. In addition, we have the expertise and experience of trained sports coaches; musical pathways in the early year classes; Music tutors; online safety awareness programme; CORE NI; Anti Bullying Programme for KS2; the PATHS program runs throughout the school, all of which promote positive mental health.

As a Dyslexia friendly school we aim to provide well supported education where all children can thrive. We work closely with outside agencies to ensure up to date training for staff and to seek advice to assist and meet the needs of our children.

As a ‘Rights Respecting School’ we support and encourage the children to have their say, especially in regards to their well-being. The Student Council have established an anti-bullying ambassador group who take their role very seriously and an Eco committee who have already achieved six green flags and led the school to become an ‘Eco - Ambassador School.

A brilliant team of hardworking and conscientious teachers who are supported by a dedicated group of classroom assistants, with a welcoming secretary and caretaker, supported by our enthusiastic Board of Governors and management we strive to do our best for each and every one of our pupils. Working hand in hand with our supportive parents and community our village school aims to be a welcoming and happy place where our children begin their school adventure as our little acorns…
