The journey of a paper tube

27th Jan 2023

Junk Art... There is nothing better to observe!

Mrs Mc Grinder brought in a long paper tube to our class for junk art and set it beside the junk box.  The play stations were set up and the children were allowed to choose.  Carla in Year 2 selected the long paper tube and examined it. She turned to Mrs Connolly and said "look it's a cylinder shape".

Carla then proceeded to walk around the classroom holding the tube vertically and measured the children in the class. "Look it's a measuring stick". Using fantastic language, Carla was sorting the children into three groups... Taller than the tube, smaller than the tube or the same size.

Carla brought the tube back to the table and turned it horizontally and said "wow the table is the same length as the stick".

The tube gained alot of attention from the children in the class and Carla alongside other children decided to paint it. Team work at its best.

Outside play in the afternoon for Thankful Thursday saw the "measuring stick" take on a new role..."the mic stand". The children used resources to set up a concert area outside. The mic stand was used and the began. Lots of turn taking, singing and dancing took place. Laugher and fun radiated from the children.

What a great day!
